BUDWEISER CLYDESDALE PARADE JULY 24TH

BUDWEISER CLYDESDALE PARADE JULY 24TH

On Wednesday July 24th, at 6:30 P.M., the Dewey Business Partnership in conjunction with the town of Dewey Beach will host the third annual Budweiser Clydesdale Parade. The regal hitch of horses will be coming through town and offering photo opportunities, as well as a fun, family friendly parade that boasts American spirit and honors our heroes. The theme of the event “The Great American Summer Celebration.”

The horses and the iconic wagon they are hitched to, are not only a symbol of the Budweiser legacy, but a celebration of the end of Prohibition in America. The original hitch of Clydesdales were given as a gift when Prohibition ended in 1933. They were then hitched to the original beer wagon and went on a post-Prohibition tour. It was a marketing sensation, and a tradition that has endured ever since. In 1950, they also added their dalmatian mascot, who now travels with the wagon, crew, and horses.

For the parade on Wednesday, July 24, the horses and their team will be strutting their stuff through town beginning at 5P.M. when they will stage at Saulsbury Street. From there they will make their way to the Starboard for a parade pre-party. While petting the horses is a no-no, the public will have opportunities to get photos with the clydesdales, from a small distance.

At 6:30P.M., the parade will begin at Saulsbury Street and move South along Route One where it will make a right turn on Van Dyke Street. The Clydesdales will be featured at the end of the parade and will make a special stop at the Lighthouse/Rudder Circle on Dickinson Street and the Bay from proximately 7:00-7:15. From there, the Clydesdales will continue on to Van Dyke Street where they will meet the post party celebration and be unhitched. Post party is 7 to 9 p.m.

The post party celebration will take place on the new Van Dyke Street Bay Beach that has just been enlarged as part of the construction of the Lighthouse-Cove Event Center at the Hyatt Place. The post party will feature food, music, autograph signing by Miss Delaware and other fun activities. Dewey Chamber of Commerce Wednesday night bonfire will also be held at the post party!  $1 donation gets roasters a jumbo marshmallow and you can borrow a stick for roasting.

This is a great opportunity for the whole family to come out, don their red, white and blue, and partake in a freshly minted Dewey Beach tradition. Parking meters and permitted spots are FREE from 5-11P.M. in the town, though organizers are encouraging everyone to arrive early.

So break out your red, white and blue and come partake in a tradition as American as apple pie! The Budweiser Clydesdales are coming, and it’s fun for the whole family. For more information visit “Dewey Business Partnership” on Facebook!
